• Marilyn Clark, CEO

    Marilyn’s collaborative approach and her relationships with Michigan Technological University, the local business community, key stakeholders and state agencies connect MTEC SmartZone companies and individuals with a vast network of resources. Before arriving at MTEC SmartZone, Marilyn served as Assistant Professor of Management at Finlandia University, Operations Manager at Fortune 500 Company Cummins Engine and Sales Director for local technology company Consistacom, where she closed deals of $1 million+. Marilyn also consulted with local companies Talon Research, IR Telemetrics and Midwest Loan Services, Inc.
  • Cheryl LeClaire, Administrative Coordinator

    Cheryl coordinates the managerial duties of SmartZone’s CEO, program directors and interns, and oversees event arrangements, accounting, payroll and budget. Cheryl’s skill in organization, presentation, communication and technology allow her to efficiently meet the needs of both SmartZone staff and the community as a whole.

  • Jason Mack, Vice President of Business Development

    Jason provides one-on-one mentoring to startups to help commercialize their technologies and identify target customers to grow sales. He understands management and has relationships in the industry that allow him to provide excellent support to the clients that need assistance growing to full potential. Jason has more than 15 years of engineering experience in the aviation and automotive industries. He was the former site manager of the GE Aviation satellite where he grew the small team to nearly 45 student co-ops and 20 full-time engineers. He is a Michigan Technological University Mechanical Engineering graduate.

  • Devin Leonarduzzi, Marketing Coordinator

    Devin manages all marketing, media communications, and event coordination for MTEC SmartZone. Originally from Iron River, MI, he graduated from Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor's degree in Communication & Media studies and a minor in Journalism. Devin has served on multiple committees including the Keweenaw Science and Engineering Festival Committee, the Keweenaw Community Spark Plug Awards Committee, and was a member of the original Leadership Keweenaw Committee. Additionally, he has been a Keweenaw Young Professionals Board Member since 2015, serving as Vice President, President and General Board Member. Devin is currently a Planning Commissioner for the City of Hancock.

  • Patrick Visser, Chief Commercial Officer

    Patrick’s focus is transformational technologies, where he works closely with MTEC SmartZone clients from Michigan Technological University and the local community to help commercialize their startups. Patrick was formerly Managing Director of Visser, LLC, a strategic consultancy where he served as Advisor and Chief Commercial Officer for UK headquartered and venture capital funded Optimal Medicine, a clinical decision support software company. Previously, he was Vice President of Strategy & Business Development at Ensure Care, a medical software and services company, and Founder and Sr. VP of Strategy & BD for SamplesMD, a life sciences SaaS. Earlier in his career, Mr. Visser worked for Quodia, a strategic fund, and in the strategy consulting group of London-based PriceWaterhouse Coopers (now IBM). Patrick Visser has a MBA from the Eli Broad Graduate School of Business at Michigan State University. He was founder and former Administrator of a global DNA Project. Originally from Kalamazoo, Patrick has frequented the Copper Country all of his life to hike, fish and visit relatives from Lake Linden, Big Traverse and other areas of the Keweenaw.
