MTEC SmartZone names Jason Mack VP of Business Development

HOUGHTON, Michigan (February 17, 2015) – MTEC SmartZone has strengthened its efforts to create a world-class technology ecosystem with the recent hiring of Jason Mack as Vice President of Business Development. Mack provides one-on-one mentoring to startups to help commercialize their technologies and identify target customers to grow sales.

Mack is the former site manager of the local GE Aviation satellite. GE has a reputation for nurturing future CEOs. The company’s commitment to leadership development and entrepreneurism had a significant impact on Mack. He has more than 15 years of engineering experience in the automotive and aviation industries. He spent the past 10 years managing a remote, low-cost engineering site, growing it from a small team of college students to nearly 20 full-time engineers and 45 student co-ops. Today, he’s leveraging this experience to guide young companies with high-growth potential, and also to attract new companies to the area.

MTEC SmartZone CEO Marilyn Clark said Mack is an invaluable resource for companies because he understands management, and has relationships in the industry. “We’re so excited to have Jason on our team. Seven companies that participated in the SmartStart program are now in the Jutila Center business incubator and need support to grow to full potential. Jason is very capable of providing that support,” she said. “Our goal is to help companies achieve consistent and sustainable growth while creating local jobs. Jason will help us do just that.”

Mack is excited about sharing his GE training with local businesses to spur prosperity. He added, “We succeed as a community when we create jobs. It’s very gratifying to be able to support our neighbors by helping them work where we all love to live.”

Mack is a Michigan Technological University Mechanical Engineering graduate and has resided in the local area for the majority of his life. A father of two, he is married to Jamie, who works as a kindergarten teacher at Dollar Bay Elementary.
