HOUGHTON, MI (October 4, 2012) – MTEC SmartZone’s Fortune 500 Formula, a company attraction program, has grown to include vehicle data acquisition and analysis software company CONTROLTEC. MTEC SmartZone officially welcomed the downstate Michigan-based company with a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new satellite office in the Lakeshore Center in Houghton, on October 4.

Student Intern Scores Contract with Global Sports Television Network for MTEC SmartZone Company, Consistacom

HANCOCK, Michigan (September 11, 2012) – Finlandia University Junior Darryl Brown is excited about his student-marketing internship at Consistacom, Inc. A small business in Hancock, Consistacom provides software to the call center industry across the world. Brown is gaining hands-on experience, performing real work and getting results for Consistacom.

MTEC SmartZone Already Exceeded Job Creation Goal for the Year - Strategic vision goal of 6 jobs created by year-end surpassed – 32 jobs created!

HOUGHTON, Michigan (August 9, 2012) – During a Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance membership meeting last January, MTECSmartZone CEO, Marilyn Clark announced a new strategic plan to create 750 jobs in 10 years. In that plan, projections included six jobs created by December 2012. MTEC SmartZone has already exceeded their goal, reporting 32 jobs created to date.


Lego Robotics Day Camp for Youth Comes to the Keweenaw

Hancock, MI (August 8, 2012) – MTEC SmartZone and Finlandia University are teaming up with Michigan Works! the Job Force Board to bring Lego Robotics to the Keweenaw, for area youth ages 7–12. Students will assemble Lego Mindstorm NXT models and learn programming skills using touch, light, and sound. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to build an interest in engineering, computer science and physics.


Entrepreneur Support Center Recognized in Washington D.C.

Hancock, MI (July 6, 2012) – Entrepreneur Support Center (ESC), a collaboration between MTEC SmartZone and Finlandia University, was selected for an international economic development award at the Computerworld Laureate Honors Program on June 4, 2012, in Washington D.C.


MTEC SmartZone partnered with Finlandia University to open ESC with a grant from Michigan Economic Development Corporation. ESC has been in operation since May 2011.
